SketchUp Group / The Blanket Bench Model from 10/20/18 Workshop
« Last post by JeffBranch on October 21, 2018, 06:05:34 PM »
I have been asked to post the SketchUp model we discussed during the 10/20/18 workshop. See the link below. This bench was designed by Mark Edmundson and from his book, Pocket Hole Joinery. Since the joinery is simple, this was a good model to teach some basic SketchUp concepts.

You might also try Magic City Plywood on 2nd Ave. in Birmingham.  Their primary problem is that unlike City Hardwood, you cannot look through lumber stacks, they are wholesale only.  As an AWG member, you are allowed to buy there.  They do not take checks and there is a 3% surcharge if you use a credit card.

We discussed this today in our class on dovetails where we made the shape of a dovetail pin and then copied this to achieve the total number of tails in a dovetail joint...

Making dovetails in SketchUp requires a lot of layout using the tape measure tool and the protractor tool. Doing this is much like you would do in the workshop. Here are two videos which show you how...

This one is video and shows an extension I use called Wudworx...
Luthier Group / Guitar build Project

There have been a lot of interest expressed in building an acoustic guitar. I'll post the progress of the group here along with any tips and jigs.
Here is the workboard that everyone made to get started. I call it a universal workboard because you use dowels (1.25") with a hanger bolt and wing nut inserted in the slots to outline the guitar profile you are building.

Here's the book we are using as our guide.

Thanks for the instructions on this. I have gone through this process of converting a pro version to Make, I would not have been able to remember the steps.

Word is we'll talk about the $41 licenses at the Saturday 0800 meeting.  Please be there along with anyone else you know who is interested.  I know one other person, so that's four of us.  They're looking for a count, so I'm sure it will be at least another month till the licenses for Pro are available.

Meanwhile, I'm using Sketchup Make successfully with no problems opening files made in Sketchup Pro.  Only thing I notice is that some of the tools, ones I don't need, are grayed out.  Also, the Warehouse is probably lacking which I will need soon.
